Dear John

I love you.

SPRING COUTURE 2010

It's Couture Week in Paris and I couldn't possibly let it pass by without posting pictures from the Christian Dior show. John Galliano (head of the fashion house) is my all-time favorite fashion designer. Truly a visionary; I regard him as one of the finest artisans to ever grace the stage of fashion. He is well-known for his theatrics and over-the-top detailing. This show was no different.

After taking inspiration from a trip to the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum, Galliano's "eureka" moment came while viewing a photo of Charles James doing a fitting. On the wall in the photo was a Gibson girl sitting sidesaddle, thus inviting a new theme for Spring Couture.

"I was reading that, actually, it was Charles James who influenced Monsieur Dior to come up with the New Look," he said. "And then I was looking at a photo of Charles James doing a fitting—and on the wall behind him was a picture of women riding sidesaddle. And that was it!"

Pat McGrath has been the lead makeup artist for the Christian Dior shows for some time now and she never ceases to completely astound me. The porcelain skin matched with deep ruby lips is always a stunning combination, over-the-top, as couture should be.

Attached in this post you will find the treasures among the troves of images taken the other night at the show, as well as video of the show in it's entirety. Hope you enjoy them.
